I love a Discount Shop!

I spend more time in $2/discount shops than I care to admit to. China may be belching out pollution at an astonishing rate, but by golly haven’t they given us a wonderful avalanche of cheap crap to rummage through? Some say these stores are (*gasp!*) full of junk. Not I, oh no, I’d much prefer wandering the aisles of ‘Dynamic Discounts’ than any Cartier or YSL. There’s a $2 dollar shop down the road from me, I’ve been there so many times the couple that own it treat me like their daughter.

This post is dedicated to all the things I’ve made from discount shop discoveries. Like the Sea Glass Lamp above. Technically the little lamp came from Ikea but it was very cheap so I think it counts. The glass stones were $2 a bag. It took 3 bags to cover the lamp. Below are some more of my crafts that began their life on the discount floor.

Paper Plate Baskets

Painted Foam Eggs

Play Kitchen

Wacky Wigs

Sequined Mirror

Mini Party Cups

  8. i’m totally with you on the fact that there are some great gems hiding amidst the “junk” at dollar stores!
It is interesting that the dollar store is now called the $2 store, and here in Israel the dollar store charges 5 shekels (currently 1.4 dollars) for “dollar” items. alack alas! Thanks so much for sharing on Craft Schooling sunday!

First of all, greetings from Poland! Btw, your lamp looks beautiful! And don’t worry- in my opinion many people buy things in discount shops but they aren’t “brave” enough to admit doing this ! ;)

  13. In Minnesota we have something called Ax Man Surplus that is almost as fun as the dollar store…what is really fun is to go with some girlfriends to see what we can come up with to use some of the treasures! Loved your post.

Wow! Thats all so creative, I love discount shops. In the UK they are £1 or 99p shops and brimming with things begging to be made into something beautiful.

My favourites are your sea glass lamp (I recently acquired a big bag of green glass gems and have been wondering what to do with them) and the paper plate basket is genius!! I <3 inspire me fridays. Helping me to create from my big bag of spontaneous bargain shop buys :)
