Pop Art Portraits

Pop Art is an art movement that began in the 1950’s. It is most commonly recognized by bold, colourful, graphic-style images. Andy Warhol was a prominent Pop Artist. This is a method of creating Warhol – inspired self-portraits using a simple picture editing function in Microsoft Word.Warhole Portraits (11)
You will need a head shot taken against a plain, light coloured background. Experiment with lighting. A lamp placed at various angles around the head will produce different shadows and contours across the face. Insert the image into a blank  word document. Click the image and this will bring up a ‘Picture Tools’ tab. Click ‘Recolour’ and select ‘Black & White’. This will simplify the image and reduce it to black and white contours.

Once you have sized and cropped the image to your liking, it can be printed onto white or coloured paper and decorated. The materials used to decorate these images include: coloured pencil, coloured cellophane and chalk pastels.Warhole Portraits p Warhole Portraits (8)Click here for full instructions
